DO WOMEN APOLOGIZE MORE THAN MEN?
(June, 2014) A new ad by the hair care company Pantene asks why are women always apologizing, and raises the question of whether women say “sorry” more often than men. (audio clip below) There is actually research to back up the thinking that women say “sorry” more often than men. Two studies by the University of Waterloo in Ontario and published in the journal Psychological Science back in 2010 found that while men are just as willing as women to apologize, they had a higher threshold for what they felt they needed to apologize for. In one of the two studies, men said they would apologize less frequently than women for doing things such as inconveniencing someone they live with or being rude to a friend. Women, more often than men, tend to apologize out of a desire to seem likeable.
* Of course, they’re actually nasty backstabbing cats to each other, but still.
* What happened over at Pantene? Did they run out of things to say about their shampoo?
* Mind your own business about our behavior and just crank out the hair soap.
* Men just need to wake up and tell their wives, “I’m sorry,” and that usually covers it for the entire day.
* “Men have a higher threshold for what they felt they needed to apologize for”? My, aren’t we being polite today.
* That’s one reason. The other is that they’re insensitive bastards who don’t really care.
* Anything to cause more problems between the sexes. That’s just what we need right now.
* I’d like to apologize for being sarcastic with that.
* You want trouble? Fine. Maybe women have more to apologize about.
* PHONE TOPIC: Do you find yourself apologizing too much? Why?
