DO'S AND DON'T'S AT THE GYM
January, 2015 – Here are some Fitness Club Do’s and Don’ts from Lifescript.com:
– Wash your workout clothes after each use so you don’t stink. Plus, keep at least one clean outfit with you or in your gym locker.
– Use deodorant. Before your workout, put on deodorant or clean your armpits with a baby wipe or soap and water. Then, after your post-workout shower, apply deodorant again.
– Don’t wear perfume or cologne until after your workout is finished.
– Go for fitness, not flirting.
– Tone down the makeup. (* This means YOU, [your news guy])
– Don’t be a Know-It-All. Avoid the temptation to offer help or advice unless someone asks you.
– Clean up after yourself. Use sanitizing spray to wipe down equipment before and after using it. And carry a towel with you to dry off mats and machines when you leave a station.
– Keep noise to a minimum. Don’t grunt. Wear headphones that don’t leak too much sound, don’t sing along with the music and save the cell phone calls for later.
– Share the gear. Use one set of barbells at a time; avoid stowing 10 pieces of gym equipment in your own corner. Get up from machines when your set is over.
– Give fellow gym-goers some breathing room. Leave at least one space between you and others using aerobic equipment. Also, when waiting to use machines or weights, stand apart from those using them.
– Don’t be naked. Wrap a towel around yourself when walking to the shower, exiting the shower and drying your hair.
– Don’t monopolize the water fountain. Fill a water bottle at home. If you want to top it off during your workout, do so a little at a time.
* Don’t monopolize the water fountain? You can always tell when they start reaching.
* Gee, none of these problems come up while I’m sitting on my sofa.
* What are these “barbells” you speak of?
* You’re supposed to take a “post-workout shower”? Oops.
* Thanks for the list. How did I make it this far in life without this website to guide me?
* Seriously, how would you like to be married to the writer who came up with these?
* I’ll take suggestions. But when I hear “Do’s and Don’ts” you’ve already lost me.
* How about this: Don’t make these lists and Do go stuff yourself.
* PHONE TOPIC: Which of these drives you craziest at the gym? What’s the grossest thing you’ve ever seen at the gym?
