FINDING A NEW PET THAT LOOKS LIKE YOUR OLD PET

(May, 2014) There is a new app that will find an almost near replica of your recently deceased pet. Called PetMatch, it uses images of either an old pet, an animal that belongs to a friend, or just a favorite breed to search for similar ones nearby. The app only searches for animals that are up for adoption in the user’s local area. Animals lovers upload a photo to PetMatch, or use a sample image from the gallery, and the app will search a database of pets for animals with similar features. It uses a patented image recognition technology to perform what’s called geometric analysis. This includes scanning images to plot and match the distance between the animal’s eyes, the angle of its mouth, its face shape and its color.
* Or you can skip this and go right to the pet cloning.
* We were poor when I was growing up. We’d get a new dog, and paint it to look like the old one.
* A patented image recognition technology that uses geometric analysis? Oh, get over yourself.
* We’re talking about replacing a pet. Not an NSA surveillance program.
* Next up: Getting a new boyfriend or girlfriend who looks like the old one.
* Anyone else a little creeped out by the name PetMatch?
* At least it’s not not PetMatchbook.com or ePetHarmony.
* PHONE TOPIC: When your pet dies, do you go out and get a replica, or do you go for something different?
