WHAT DID YOU LEARN MUCH TOO LATE IN LIFE?
(March, 2022) Lifehacker asked people to name something that they learned much too late in life. Some of the responses:
– “I didn’t learn how to throw a baseball until I was probably 30, despite playing baseball my whole childhood. Apparently you’re only supposed to grip it with two fingers, but I was using my whole palm. ”
– “Learned how to ride a bike at 37.”
– “I recently learned that the dark side of the moon is an actual thing, that one side of the moon never faces Earth. I thought it was just an expression.”
– “I was in my 30s when I learned that reindeer were real animals. I thought they were made-up for Christmas stories. The Unicorns of the North Pole. No idea they were real. ”
– “Today I learned that ponies are not baby horses.”
– “Embarrassed to say this but I just learned the difference between invisible and invincible.”
– “How to cook a fried egg properly. I could get one cooked and every once in a while actually like it, but it wasn’t until my late 40’s that I learned how to do it right and consistently. I had all the pieces, I just never put them together.”
– “That Yosemite State Park was pronounced like Yosemite Sam says his name. Not Yoz.a.mite. I’d only ever read it, never connected it with the cartoon.”
– “Ore-Ida means Oregon-Idaho.”
– “I was probably 11 when I realized that pink was just light red, and not a unique color.”
– “For years I thought Lindsey Buckingham was the name of the other woman in Fleetwood Mac.”
– “The spaceship on the cover of Boston’s debut album is a guitar.”
* Where are the IMPORTANT lessons? Like “Always get a pre-nup.”
* I learned much too late that “Dr. Pimple Popper” is, literally, a description of what you’re going to see.
* All these people have yet to learn not to beat themselves up about stuff.
* Tell that one idiot that “the dark side of the moon” is NOT an actual thing. The side that faces away from us gets as much light as the side we can see. It just never rotates around so we can see it. It should be called “the hidden side of the moon.” Gah!
