WEIRD PUNISHMENTS
(February 2024) Reddit asked, “What’s the most unique punishment you received from your parents as a child?” Some of the responses:
– “I blew the engine in my dad’s pickup in the late 90s. He had me hang the remnants of one of the pistons on my wall as a reminder.”
– “I came in super drunk. The next morning, dad wakes me up – I’m totally hungover. We get in his truck and he takes me to this field and starts mudding through it. Drifting, doing doughnuts. When we stopped I fell out of the truck and immediately vomited.”
– “When I was about 12 and my brother was 10, we got in trouble for something. We lived in Washington state and it was wet and rainy. We had a big woodpile in the back yard. My dad told us to move the entire woodpile about 15 feet away. Lots of slugs and bugs were in it. When we were done he came to look at it. He said, “I don’t like it here, move it back.”
– “One time my parents punished me by making me listen to their embarrassing stories from their youth marathon. It was like an audio punishment time machine, and I begged for mercy, but they just kept going. I’d rather have been grounded!”
– “If my wife or her sister slammed the door, their mom would make them close it softly ten times. They say that was the hardest thing for them to do when mad. Neither her nor her sister slams doors shut today.”
– “Tied to my sister because we wouldn’t stop fighting.”
– “When my siblings and I were fighting a little too much our parents would make us sit on the couch, holding hands, watching the weather channel.”
– “My 6th grade teacher caught me making fart noises in class with my armpit and he sent me into the hall to spend 60 minutes … making more armpit noises.”
