HOW TO WOO WOMEN: USE THE WORD "WHOM"
(February, 2014) Wired magazine published “How to Create the Perfect Online Dating Profile” – a large-scale statistical study of which words and phrases correlate with high numbers of responses to online dating ads. For example:
– Mentioning “yoga” or “skiing” or “surfing” in your ad was found to have a positive influence on the number of contacts that will result.
– For men, it is much better to refer to a woman using the word “woman,” but a woman’s ad will do better if she refers to herself as a “girl.”
– Mentioning cats is fine, but mention “my cats” and you’re considered a weirdo.
– Men who use the word “whom” get 31% more contacts from opposite-sex respondents. And you don’t even have to use it correctly.
* So, if you’re a sci-fi nerd, write that you like to watch “Dr. Whom”.
* Computer geeks who read “Wired” using online dating services? Well, that part checks out.
* You don’t even have to use the word “whom” correctly? Well that’s a relief for all whom use it.
* If you’re basing your sex life on a single word, better make it “rich.”
* “Whom.” I get it. There’s nothing as fun as doing the naughty stuff with someone who’s real proper.
* Other tips: Leave the description of your baseball card collection out completely.
* And about the cats? If you have more than two, don’t give the number.
* Oh, and don’t even try to say, “I’ve never done this before …”
* PHONE TOPIC: Online dating disasters.
