FRENCH FRY RANKINGS

You like French fries? Of course you do. LA Times food columnist Lucas Kwan Peterson did his own personal survey of 19 fast food French fries. He ranked them on taste and texture. Here is one food critic’s opinion of French fries, from Best to Worst:
1. Five Guys: “Fried in peanut oil, which allows the potato’s true flavor to shine.”
2. McDonald’s: A very close call for first place, but Peterson said that McDonald’s fries lose their texture too quickly.
3. Del Taco: “Crispy on the outside with a nice, fluffy center.”
4. Steak ‘n Shake: These long and skinny fries were celebrated for their crunch factor.
5. Arby’s: He liked not only that they were curly fries, but also the chain’s seasoning blend.
6. Carl’s Jr
7. Dairy Queen
8. Wendy’s
9. Shake Shack
10. Burger King
11. Chick-fil-A: “soft and mealy”
12. Popeye’s
13. Jack in the Box
14. KFC
15. Wienerschnitzel
16. Jollibee
17. Rally’s: “flat and milk-warm.”
18. Sonic: “had taken on the characteristics of French Fry Rigor Mortis, which sets in approximately nine minutes after leaving the fryer.”
19. In-and-Out: “bland, crumbly little matchsticks.”
* Sorry, Ore-Ida, I guess no one makes French fries at home anymore.
* #1 – Five Guys. The PEANUT oil lets the POTATO’S true flavor shine. He lost me right there.
* French fries are like pizza. Even a bad one is good.
* I had a friend who once said, “These are so awful, I can hardly finish them.”
