ASTEROID DAY / METEOR WATCH DAY
The Holiday Insights website says this:
“We sure hope that the weather in your area calls for clear skies tonight. Today is Meteor Watch Day, a time to look to the skies for meteor showers. Will you be lucky enough to see meteors streaking across the night sky? We sure hope so. Meteors are space dust and ice that enter the earth’s atmosphere. Meteors can be as small as specks of dust. As they enter the atmosphere at high speeds, they burn up, producing light as they streak across the night sky. Sometimes, you see them streak across the sky and disappear at the horizon. Other times, they end suddenly, burning out right before your eyes. With a little luck, you can see a meteor just about any night of the year. But, the best times to see meteors is during a meteor shower. There are a number of them each year. The best annual show is the Perseid Meteor shower each August. Enjoy Meteor Watch day as you scan the night skies in search of meteors. We sure hope you see some tonight!”

THE BUZZTHINGS PEOPLE SAW IN A RICH PERSON’S HOUSE

Buzzfeed asked, “What’s the most extravagant things you’ve seen in a rich person’s home?” Some of the responses:
– “My friend was super wealthy and he had suits of knight armor and axes from Vikings, and a crown made of gold.”
– “It had two indoor swimming pools.”
– “A rich friend of my mother had a chapel in her home and a live-in priest.”
– “A rich friend who raised horses spent over $100k to install Brazilian rosewood floors in their horse stables.”
– “At a private school, a new 13-year-old student was moving in, and his parents were inspecting his dorm room. They were concerned he would be sharing a room with another student, and also they were genuinely confused why he didn’t have another room. The dorm advisor asked why he needed to have another room in addition to this one. The parents asked, sincerely, ‘Where will his private chef sleep?'”
– “I was at a wealthy person’s wedding. Each table had its own two-tier wedding cake! The main wedding cake alone had to have been well over $15k, and each ‘baby’ cake was a replica of the bigger one.”
– “I went to a friend’s house for the first time once and stopped at the gate. I called up and asked if I should go to the house on the left or the right after the gate opened, assuming one of the houses belonged to a neighbor. Turns out, the house on the right was just a house for their cars (it could fit 12 cars).”

DOG ALERTS COUPLE TO ALLIGATOR IN THEIR HOUSE

Last Friday night in New Iberia, Louisiana, a couple were awakened in the middle of the night by Panda, their 7-year-old Australian cattle dog. They thought it might be a burglar. It turned out to just be a 5-foot alligator. Don and Jan Schultz had just moved to Louisiana from Arizona. Don got up headed down the hall to check when he saw the shape of an alligator. The animal apparently came through the doggy door. They called 911, who sent Wildlife officers to the house and quickly captured the alligator and relocated it back to the swamp.
* They moved halfway across the country to a swamp? I’d sue the real estate agent.
* “Hey – where’s the dog?” Jan asked when the incident was over.
* An alligator in the house is all part of the Louisiana Welcome Wagon service.
* Time to teach Panda how to use a doggy door combination lock.
* Usually it’s when the dog STOPS barking that you have to watch out for alligators.

RHINOCEROS ON THE LOOSE AT BUFFALO ZOO

The Buffalo Zoo in New York reported that a rhinoceros escaped from his enclosure Wednesday and was outside for about 10 minutes before being safely returned. Officials say Mohan the rhino was still behind numerous barriers and did not pose a danger to the public, but emergency protocols were activated and zoo guests were ushered to indoor areas as a precaution (*y’know – just to ruin everybody’s visit to the zoo). It was unclear how he managed to escape from the paddock.
* Those rhinos are really good at sneaking by you.
* Out for only 10 minutes. The rhino’s thinking, “How do they expect me to get in my steps for today?”
* It’s the Buffalo Zoo. What’s a zoo for buffaloes doing with a rhinoceros?
* To keep the rhino from charging, they shut down all the credit card terminals in the zoo snack bars.

PEPSI INTRODUCES COLACHUP

Pepsi has unveiled what they call “Colachup” – a ketchup infused with Pepsi. The condiment was developed as a holiday promotion in collaboration with the Culinary Institute of America’s business unit. The new sauce, described and sweet and salty, is debuting this week at several Major League Baseball stadiums across the country. Said Jenny Danzi, a senior director at Pepsi: “We invented Pepsi Colachup to reinforce just how well hot dogs and Pepsi go together.”
* But they pay her – she HAS to say that.
* Notice she didn’t say KETCHUP and Pepsi go together. Which is what they did. ‘Cause they don’t.
* I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that nobody – EVER – has stirred a couple tablespoons of ketchup into their Pepsi.
* Because your hot dog isn’t unhealthy enough, we have to pour soda pop all over it.
* They wanted to do it with mustard, but the name “Colaturd” didn’t test well in the focus group.

FRENCH FIREMAN SETS RECORD FOR RUNNING WHILE ON FIRE

A French firefighter earned a Guinness World Record for running a distance of 893 feet after being set on fire. Jonathan Vero, 39, donned a protective suit and was set ablaze on a track to break the record for longest distance full body burn run without oxygen. The previous record was held by a British man who ran a distance of 670 feet. Mr. Vero works as both a firefighter and a professional stuntman. He says he “always had a passion for fire” and has “never stopped playing with it.”
* He’s talking about fire there, right?
* He sounds hot.
* I’ve heard of “going out in a blaze of glory,” but this is nuts.
* Not mentioned is his record for world’s longest, loudest scream.
* Don’t let Jay Leno see the video. He’ll get PTSD.
* Guess which member of the Fantastic Four is his favorite. C’mon – guess!

KELSEA BALLERINI HIT IN FACE WITH BRACELET DURING CONCERT

Continuing the new tradition of hitting your favorite performers in the face while they’re singing, country star Kelsea Ballerini was struck in the face after a fan threw an object onstage at her show in Boise, Idaho, on Wednesday. Ballerini, 28, was performing her song “If You Go Down (I’m Goin’ Down Too)” when she was hit. She stopped singing while her violinist checked her face. Her tour manager came on stage after the incident and informed the crowd that it was a friendship bracelet. He asked that people not throw things. Kelsea then came back on stage a few minutes later and finished the show.
– This is only the most recent incident of artist assault in recent weeks. Last Saturday, Pink was stunned after a fan threw their mother’s ashes at her during her show at the British Summer Time Festival in London.
– Pop star Bebe Rexha was hit in the face with a cellphone.
– Ava Max was performing when a man jumped on stage and extended his arm to touch her. Security fought to block the man but his hand managed to strike her in the face and left her with a scratched eyeball.
