THE CURRENT COST OF RAISING A KID
(January, 2017) The cost of raising a child has increased in the last year, according to a report from the Department of Agriculture. For a middle-income family to raise a child born in 2015 through the age of 17, the cost of rearing a child has hit $233,610, according to the report. The price jump is a 3% increase from the previous year, with housing taking up a bulk of the expense at 29% of the cost. Food took the second biggest expense at 18%.
* I bet electronics was the third biggest expense.
* The biggest cost is housing? What do they think – that before the kids come along, you’re living in a tent under a bridge?
* This number can’t be right. When I tried to sell my kid on the internet, nobody offered more than ten grand.
* A lot of that cost is the money you pay the lawyer to get them evicted once they turn 18.
* Expenses go down for additional children as the parents begin to lose interest.
* The takeaway here is that if you need to borrow money, hit up your friends who don’t have kids. Apparently, they’re loaded.
* But as every parent knows, you get every penny of that $233,000 back in hugs!
