STUDY: THERE IS NO MIDLIFE CRISIS
(January, 2016) Researchers from the University of Alberta in Canada say the famous “mid-life crisis” isn’t real. The study followed a group of high school students for 25 years and a group of college students for 14 years. The participants were all asked the same question at different ages: How happy are you with your life? They found that as the people aged, they became happier and more secure. Those who were married and in good health were happier than younger participants who were unemployed.
* Or maybe as the people got older, they kept lowering their expectations.
* “Not going to be a millionaire, check. Not going to make partner, check. Not going to keep my hair, check. Not going to lose this pot belly, check…”
* No mid-life crisis? Can I still get a little red sports car when I’m 40?
* Of course there’s no mid-life crisis. The whole thing is a crisis.
* They followed a group of high school students for 25 years? That’s a long time to stay in high school.
