ONE IN FOUR WOULD DATE A ROBOT
(April, 2016) A new poll out of England finds that one in four young people in the UK would happily date a robot. The only caveats, according to the survey of 18- to 34-year-olds, is that their android must by a “perfect match”, and must look like a real-life human being. The survey of 1,000 British adults was conducted on behalf of Nesta, the UK’s innovation foundation, to promote its FutureFest festival.
* First of all, define “date.”
* And when the “date” is over, can I wipe the robot’s memory?
* The robot “must look like a real-life human being”? Yes, but which human being? Betty White? Scarlett Johansson?
* Only one in four would date a robot, but that’s because one of the other three is already happy with their blow-up doll.
* I love my wife/husband, but sometimes I would kill for an off switch.
* People want a perfect match? Are you kidding? Personally, I’d want a robot that’s way out of my league.
