LOSE WEIGHT NOW: TURN OFF THE LIGHTS

(February, 2016) Turning the lights out or wearing a blindfold while eating could be a quick way to lose weight, according to scientists. An experiment by the University of Konstanz, in Germany, found that people who were blindfolded consumed nine per cent fewer calories before they felt full, compared to those who could see. To test the effect, 50 people were blindfolded with modified ski goggles, and 40 were allowed to see their food. All were given three bowls of cherry, caramel and vanilla ice cream and invited to eat for 15 minutes. They bowls were taken away and the remaining ice-cream measured, while the participants were quizzed on how much they thought they had eaten. On average the group who could see ate more than the blindfolded groups. However the blindfolded group believed they had eaten much more than they had – by about 88 percent. The researchers say people vastly overestimated how much they had eaten because they could not see how much was left on the plate. Scientists believe that not seeing food on the table also allows the body to know when it is full in real-time rather than remembering past experiences where it might have taken a full plate to feel satiated.
* And here I thought I was eating in the dark because I hate myself.
* It’s the same principal when eating at Arby’s: close your eyes and hope for the best.
* Nine percent fewer calories??? Why, that’s almost on the verge of barely making a difference!!!
* To eat even less, use a blindfold AND remove all the silverware from the table.
* It’s a good thing this test was done in Germany. Try to take three bowls of ice cream away from an American and there could be violence.
* The flaw here is that they eat for 15 minutes. There’s no cutoff like that in the real world.
* It just takes longer blindfolded because it’s harder to find your mouth.
* I don’t know about you but the cutoff in my world is when the box of cookies is gone.
* As far as eating three different kinds of ice cream at once? That part checks out completely. That’s exactly how we do it.
