“NIGHT SHIFT” PHONE MODE DOESN’T REALLY HELP YOU SLEEP BETTER

Remember when someone said the blue light from your cell phone or computer tablet disrupted melatonin secretion and caused you to not get a good night’s sleep? Sure you do. Because that’s when Apple introduced a feature called Night Shift that adjusts the screen’s colors to warmer hues after sunset. Android phones did the same thing, and now most smartphones have some sort of night mode function that claims to help users sleep better. Guess what? Doesn’t work. A new study from Brigham Young University, published in Sleep Health, compared the sleep outcomes of individuals in three categories: those who used their phone at night with the Night Shift function turned on, those who used their phone at night without Night Shift and those who did not use a smartphone before bed at all. There were no differences across all three groups. Everybody slept the same.
* Except those that used their phone before sleeping now have X-ray vision.
* Oh, well. Back to the whiskey and Ambien.
* Yet another disappointing lie from the makers of technology. Like a FitBit watch will make me lose weight.
* Next they’re going to try and tell us our phones are gluten-free.
