EMT PERFORMS CPR ON ELPHNT
A baby elephant was struck by a motorcyclist Sunday while crossing a road with its elephant family in the province of Chanthaburi, Thailand. The little guy fell to the ground and laid motionless on its side. An off-duty rescue worker, Mana Srivate, was nearby and jumped in to give the baby elephant CPR. Srivate administered two-handed compressions to the animal while his colleagues attended to the motorcycle rider, who sustained only minor injuries. The whole time, the mother and other elephants were calling for the baby. Srivate said he just assumed where an elephant heart would be located based on human theory and a video clip he saw online. When the baby elephant started to move, he almost cried. After 10 minutes of pachyderm pulmonary presses, the baby elephant finally stood up, and was then rushed to another location for further treatment.
* “I’ll pump his chest, you blow into his trunk. I said his TRUNK!”
* In Thailand, you don’t look for jaywalkers, you look for grey-walkers.
* Time to put up some “Elephant Crossing” signs.
* Huh. A dozen hospital shows on TV, but not one with an Emergency Veterinarian.
