CORONAVIRUS: THE GAME
Four German sisters have created a new board game based on the coronavirus. The Schwaderlapp sisters of Wiesbaden were inspired by reports of people panic buying supplies during the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic. The goal of the game, called “Corona,” is to purchase essential items for an elderly neighbor who is self-isolating in their house. Up to four players trade and exchange cards representing everything from toilet paper to soap, and the winner is determined by whomever delivers all the groceries first. Along the way, competitors navigate various obstacles, including toilet paper hoarders and the coronavirus itself, which sends the player to quarantine. Participants can also decide to cooperate with the others, or make things harder for them by blocking their path with viruses. The girls’ father, Benedikt Schwaderlapp, was so impressed with “Corona” that he hired artists to commercialize the look of the game. So far, the family has sold over 2,000 copies.
* Sounds like the girls hit a Yahtzee their first time out.
* But they’re not going to heaven unless they donate the profits to first responders.
* You know, there wouldn’t be a Coronavirus board game if we’d had better Chinese checkers.
* Somebody should have thought of this during the Black Plague. Would’ve lightened the mood a little.
* Just wait until we run out of vaccine. Then we’ll all be playing “Sorry!”
