CAT SCRATCH FEVER CAN MAKE YOU SCHIZO
A new study has found that a bacteria called Bartonella, which is known for causing the disease “cat-scratch fever” — named for cats’ propensity for spreading it through bites and scratches — is found in the bloodstream of schizophrenics more frequently than those without the mental disorder. The research, published this month in the journal Vector-Borne and Zoonotic Diseases, looked at a small contingent of people and, while it is not definitive, it adds to a growing body of work that supports that being infected with Bartonella bacteria can cause neurological problems.
* So please stop licking your cat’s scratching post.
* Like cats need another way to drive you crazy.
* “Oh boy, it’s the food I loved yesterday! I hate it now.”
* It still won’t kill you as fast as the cat trying to trip you down the stairs.
* By the way, what’s the deal with the Vector-Borne and Zoonotic Diseases journal? I can’t find it anywhere in the supermarket magazine section.
