FEWER ARTISTS FROM THE ALPHA GENERATION

There may be fewer artists and musicians in the coming years. Researchers from Eötvös Loránd University in Hungary say children who start using digital devices at a young age pay more attention to tiny details and less to the whole picture. The “Alpha generation,” or children born after 2010, live with constant exposure to digital technology on a daily basis. Not only does this change how they view their surroundings, researchers say it affects their cognitive, emotional, and social development as well. People who pay attention to details are more skillful at analytical thinking, but less creative and have weaker social skills. The phenomenon will likely lead to more scientists in the coming decades, but fewer artists and musicians.
* And yet American Idol and The Voice go on and on and on and on …
* And how about Penn & Teller’s “Fool Us”? Apparently several million Americans like to do card tricks.
* After Tekashi SixNine and Cardi B and all that K-Pop, I’m okay with fewer new artists for a couple of years.
* And, frankly, there’s a lot of people on Etsy that have no business being there. Let ’em go invent something, make the world a better place.
* Isn’t Eötvös Loránd the name of the Frog Lady on The Mandalorian?
