WOMAN HAS BEEN PRETENDING TO BE NEW YORK TIMES REPORTER FOR YEARS
A Manhattan woman has been masquerading as a New York Times reporter for years. The Times has filed a lawsuit against Contessa Bourbon, trying to force her to stop, saying she’s been keeping up the charade for four years. Bourbon first introduced herself as a Times reporter at a Brookings Institute event in 2013. She also claimed to work for the paper in an interview with the Turkish ambassador, and then again at a speech in March by Education Secretary Betsy DeVos. “Ms. Bourbon is not, and has never been, employed by The Times, as a reporter for The New York Times, or in any other position or capacity,” the lawsuit says. She has ignored two cease-and-desist letters. Her scheme, the suit says, “is likely to cause confusion or injury to the business reputation of The Times.”
* Not bloody likely, but I see their point.
* Isn’t this the kind of spunk you want in a high-profile reporter?
* I’ve heard of fake news, but not fake reporters.
* The biggest giveaway that she doesn’t really work for the New York Times? She doesn’t hate Trump.
* Who wouldn’t want to pose as a reporter to get into a Brookings Institute event or interview the Turkish Ambassador?
* Contessa Bourbon. I’ve read a lot of her work. No, wait, not “read” – “drunk”.
