WOMAN CUT OFF OWN HAND FOR INSURANCE SCAM

A court in Slovenia on Friday sentenced a 22-year-old woman to two years in prison for deliberately cutting off her hand with a circular saw to make a fraudulent insurance claim. The court in Ljubljana said Julija Adlesic agreed with her boyfriend to have her left hand severed above the wrist at their home in the capital early in 2019. About a year earlier, she took out five different insurance policies (* one for each finger?). She stood to collect more than 1 million euros from the injury. The pair had taken her to a hospital, saying she had injured herself while sawing branches. Authorities said they left the severed hand behind rather than bringing it to the hospital to ensure the disability was permanent. But police recovered the hand and it was reattached. Prosecutors said that days before the incident, Adlesic’s boyfriend had searched for information on the internet about how artificial hands work, another proof that it was done deliberately. Her boyfriend was sentenced to three years in prison for the scam.
* Do you think she’s going to wait for him after she gets out a year before he does?
* “Honey, can you think of a way I can scam my insurance company?” “Yes, Julija, but you’re going to have to give me a hand.”
* The judge threw the book at her. But she couldn’t catch it because, you know.
* When it comes to yard work, she’s not too handy. Heck, she’s barely one-handy.
