WHAT AMERICA DOES BETTER THAN EUROPE
Reddit this week asked the community what things America does better than Europe. Some of the responses:
– Free water: “I don’t know why every restaurant in Europe charges you an arm and a leg for a tiny glass bottle of water. Can I please just get a tall glass of tap water?”
– Mexican Food: “My buddy went to a cafe in Denmark once and ordered the chips & salsa. Said it was basically Doritos and marinara sauce.”
– Public Parks: “National parks. It always amazes me how well the USA does these. They strike the perfect balance between conservation and recreation.”
– Small Talk: “I visited the US two years ago and people were so friendly and talkative. I can’t recall last time someone small talked with me in Sweden.” Another response: “In Sweden I once asked a guy who was struggling to move something on the street if he wanted any help. He stared at me like I was about to stab him and remained silent.”
– Tech jobs: “Entry level engineering jobs start higher, but the extra vacation and benefits in Europe balance it out, but someone 20-30 years into their career in America is making significantly more than their European counterpart. I’m talking like 300k in US vs peaking at like 100k in Europe.”
– Starting a Business: “As an American who lived in Belgium for 9 years, what really stands out to me as an American strength is the ease of starting new businesses. You can literally form an LLC in under an hour and be doing business by the end of the week.”
– Air Conditioning: “People make fun of Europeans when we complain about the heat being unbearable but AC is not widespread. Our buildings are also designed to keep in as much heat as possible. I absolutely despise summer in England, makes me bloody miserable.”
* America complains better than Europe, I’ll tell you what.
* I’m pretty sure we have Europe beat when it comes to high blood pressure and diabetes.
* How has no one mentioned ice? Europe has yet to figure out ice.
* Also showers. If you’re standing in a European shower and can lift your hands up to touch your face, you must be in the luxury suite.
