AUDIO: PAT SAJAK’S “WHEEL OF FORTUNE” MEMORIES
On this, his final week of “Wheel of Fortune,” the show is releasing a series of videos of Pat Sajak being interviewed by his daughter, Maggie Sajak. In the interviews, Maggie asks her father questions about his career, leading up to his final episode of “Wheel of Fortune” on Friday. (Although these farewell episodes this week were taped back in April.) Anyway, here are some of Pat Sajak’s Most Treasured Memories from “The Wheel”:
* That crazy time a contestant guessed an N but it was really an R.
* How Vanna used to get so dizzy spinning around turning the letters she would run back behind the game board and vomit.
* He spent all these years as a game show host, but what he really wanted to be was a game show co-host.
* To goose the ratings, he kept urging producers to use more words with the letters C and K next to each other.
* He was contractually allowed to try on all of Vanna’s gowns before she did.
* The episode, never aired, when a contestant leaned over too far to spin the wheel, fell forward and became impaled on the wheel spikes.
* In the early years, when someone guessed an A or an I or an O, he would always say, “Vanna’s about to have a vowel movement” and giggle uncontrollably.
* That time in Season 32 when he suddenly jerked his head up and said, “Hey – this is ‘Hangman.’ We’re just playing stupid Hangman.”

EVANGELINE LILY RETIRES FROM ACTING
Actress Evangeline Lily went on Instagram to announce her retirement from acting. Lily is known for her breakout role as Kate Bishop on Lost, as well as playing elven ranger Tauriel in Peter Jackson’s Hobbit films, and her role in the Marvel cinematic universe as the current Wasp. Lily writes, “I am so filled with joy and contentment today as I live out my vision. Stepping away from what seems like the obvious choice (wealth and fame) can feel scary at times, but stepping into your dharma replaces the fear with fulfillment. I might return to Hollywood one day, but, for now, this is where I belong.”
* Well, that’s a shame. She will be mis— who is she again?
* Three roles and she’s burned out on acting? Where’s the effort anymore?
* When Marvel decided to put Bill Murray in “Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania,” she figured it was all getting a little too silly.
* You step into dharma, you can get a shoe full of shiva.

FIREWORKS NAMES THAT SOUND FAKE, BUT ARE REAL
TheBoot website had some time on their hands and they did some research into wacky names of fireworks. They did a search of fireworks stores’ online inventory, and they found a bunch of Fireworks Names That Sound Fake But Are Real:
– Bubba’s Boom
– Bassical Blast
– Death Blossom
– Unicorn Puke
– Raging Rottweilers
– Lazer Kittyz
– Catvasion
– Pizza Pocalypse
– Psycho Peacock
– Lit and Legit
– DadGum
– Shimmer Me Timbers
– Impending Danger
– Whacky Tobacky
– Light and Run
– Mummy Dust
– Redneck Finale
* Which end does the unicorn puke come out?
* I think about a dozen of these were horses in the Kentucky Derby.
* Are we allowed to use these for band names?
* There should be more truth-in-advertising when if comes to fireworks. They ought to call them, like, “Paycheck Destroyer” and “Twenty Bucks Gone Boom.” And, then, my favorite firework name: “That’s It?”
U.S. NEWS
MAN FINED $83,000 FOR LOUD CAR
In Seattle, Washington, a man who has been terrorizing the city with his very, very loud Dodge Charger Hellcat has been fined $83,000. Miles Hudson is infamous in the city for both driving recklessly and revving his engine around town. He had modified the Hellcat’s exhaust to purposely backfire, which was described as sounding like gunfire or fireworks. He’s been pulled over twice – one time for driving 107 mph – and ignored a court order to fix the car. The city hit him with a $1,300-a-day fine, which has now grown to $83,000. Yet the Seattle attorney’s office has alleged that “Hudson continues to ‘flaunt’ his Charger’s excessive noise on his Instagram account.”
* He sounds like a pretty cool guy to me, making all that noise and drawing attention to himself. Pretty, pretty cool guy.
* Seattle must be one of those “Only pay our fines if you feel like it” cities.
* I bet he was a middle child.
* If he really wants to annoy people by making noise, he should take up pickleball.
ANOTHER PERSON FINDS SPACE JUNK IN HIS YARD
Mike Wooten was watching television in his living room in Franklin, North Carolina on May 21 when he heard a ‘thump’ on the roof. He thought it might have been a bird flying into his upstairs window. When he went outside to investigate, he found what appeared to be a piece of black fabric, 15 inches long, 4 inches wide, and weighing about two or three pounds. He said it resembled a car air filter with bolts, only melted. He suspects it had fallen from space. Wooten called his son-in-law to tell him of the discovery, and learned that just a couple of days earlier, another man, about 40 miles away, had discovered a larger, heavier piece of debris while mowing a trail that also had apparently fallen from space. It was also significantly larger than Wooten’s debris: about four feet square and weighing 90 pounds. Mr. Wooten believes both objects belong to SpaceX, and a local scientist believes it’s from a rocket that launched last August.
* This stuff is supposed to fall in the Pacific. What’s Elon Musk’s beef with North Carolina?
* It makes a cute story and all, until the hunks of burning metal start crashing through your roof as you sleep.
* Isn’t time to start fining these idiot billionaires for littering?
* We can’t even keep empty plastic water bottles off our streets, and now we have to deal with space junk?
GIANT SPIDERS TO INVADE THE EAST COAST
Giant black and yellow spiders the size of a human hand are set to arrive in northeastern U.S. states this summer (* What, are they on tour?). Jorō spiders are an invasive species that originated in China, and experts say they can fly up to 100 miles by turning their webs into makeshift parasails. Jorō spiders are believed to have made it to the U.S. about ten years ago on shipping containers delivered to Georgia. The critters are about four inches long and have legs that span six to eight inches. The females are brightly colored and are known to cannibalize their brown-colored male mates. Although they are venomous, scientists say Jorō spiders’ venom is weak and that their fangs aren’t strong enough to break the skin of humans or pets. On the bright side, Jorō spiders don’t want to go inside homes and prefer staying outside and using manmade structures as the basis to form their webs.
* Good thing there aren’t many manmade structures on the east coast.
* Is it too late for them to eat all the cicadas?
* Time to call out the SWAT teams.
* Thanks again, China. You run out of viruses to send around the world?
TRENDINGHERE COME THE BALDWINS
The Alec Balwin Redemption Tour is starting. Alec and Hilaria Baldwin are inviting viewers into their chaotic home for a reality series airing on TLC coming next year, in 2025. The couple announced the show, “The Baldwins,” in a video posted to Instagram, in which their seven children run around the house screaming. Alec says, “We’re inviting you into our home to experience the ups and downs; the good, the bad, the wild and the crazy. Home is the place we love to be most. We are the Baldwins, and we’re going to TLC! God help you all.”
COLDPLAY MEETS TOUR ENVIRONMENTAL GOALS
Coldplay say they have surpassed their own target for cutting carbon emissions for live shows. In 2019, frontman Chris Martin announced that the band was putting touring on hold while considering how to make their performances more environmentally friendly. Two years later, Coldplay announced its Music of the Spheres tour – and with it a pledge to cut in half the emissions generated by show production, freight and the travel for band members and crew. The achievement is partly down to audience participation, which has seen fans producing energy by jumping up and down on kinetic dance floors and cycling on specially modified bikes. The band also promised to plant a tree for every single ticket sold for their shows. The range of innovative measures during the tour, which have encouraged the audience to take part in the eco-friendly initiative, have led to them producing 59% less than on their previous stadium tour in 2016-17, Coldplay said. The band said that the figures have been verified by the MIT Environmental Solutions Initiative.
DEMI MOORE AND JOE JONAS?
In today’s “What’s up with that?”, the New York Post reports that actress Demi Moore has a flirty new friendship with singer Joe Jonas. The 61-year-old actress met the 34-year-old singer while in the South of France last month, according to insiders. The two were seen having lunch together at the exclusive Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes, France. A well-placed source says, “Demi and Joe have struck up a friendship. They have mutual friends and they bonded.”

* Just in time for the first slapstick movies featuring the banana-peel-pratfall.

* And the customer was heard to say, “Don’t tell my wife about this …”
1783 – The Montgolfier brothers in France completed the world’s first balloon flight.

1661 – Scientist Isaac Newton got into Cambridge University.
* He’s the guy who had an apple fall on his head, giving him the idea for something that would change man’s perception of the universe forever. Hard cider.
THIS DAY IN MUSIC HISTORY
2019 – Forbes magazine announced that Rihanna was the richest female musician in the world. The singer had amassed a fortune of about $600 million, largely through her music and makeup business. Her Fenty Beauty line launched in 2017 reportedly made $100 million in its first 40 days. Rihanna’s wealth put her ahead of Madonna, worth an estimated $563 million, Celine Dion at $440 million, and Beyonce at $394 million.
2016 – The four members of ABBA performed alongside one another for the first time since 1982 at a private gala to mark 50 years since songwriting duo Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson met for the first time in Stockholm. 2003 – R. Kelly was banned from traveling to LA for a video shoot. He wasn’t allowed to leave Chicago after being charged with 21 child porn offenses over a video, which claimed to show him having sex with an underage girl. Despite having previously paid four known settlements to underage girls who accused him of sexual misconduct, Kelly was found not guilty when the alleged victim, now age 23, said she wasn’t the girl in the video. (In 2021 and 2022, he was convicted on multiple charges involving child sexual abuse. As of 2024, he is serving a 31-year combined sentence.)
