WANDERING CHINESE ELEPHANTS RETURNING HOME
Remember the Chinese elephants that wandered off their preserve and were roaming through residential areas? After an epic 17-month journey, they seem to finally be heading home. The 14 Asian elephants of various sizes and ages were guided across the Yuanjiang river in Yunnan on Sunday night and a path was being made for them to return to the nature reserve in the (* and good luck pronouncing this!) Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture. As of Sunday night, the herd was approximately 125 miles (200km) from the reserve.
* They couldn’t bum a ride from a traveling circus?
* Maybe they made it to a beach but they realized they’d forgot their trunks, and they’re going back to get them.
* They finally admitted to themselves that they just weren’t going to make it all the way to the Taj Mahal.
* Just a heads up, elephants – our first story about this in June said 15 elephants. Might want to backtrack and find the slowpoke.
