WALLET THIEF CUTS POCKETS

In New York, police are looking for a man who is stealing wallets on the subway by cutting holes in the victims’ pants. He has hit at least seven times since February on the “L” train line. The suspect takes a knife or other sharp item and cuts the pants pocket of the victim to grab their wallet. He usually strikes late at night. In some cases the victim was asleep but in at least one case the victim was awake when the thief struck. In two cases the man took a victim’s phone after cutting off his back pocket. The victims didn’t realize their wallets or phones were gone until later.
* The Harpo Marx of thievery.
* At least the victims can sell their pants on the distressed jeans market.
* Yuck. This could bring back fanny packs.
* Well, people are just going to have to ride the subway without pants.
* Or start wearing chainmail.
* I suppose if a mugger is using a knife on you, this is what you want.
* The “L” Train, huh? Sounds like some real losers, too.
* Too lazy to pickpocket, huh?
* I think we should have some respect: it’s not every day that a thief invents a whole new kind of crime.
* Get ready. This is what it’s going to be like when the laser weapons get here.
