VENICE CANALS ARE DRYING UP
Canals in the famous city of Venice, Italy, are drying up. The city, where flooding is normally the primary concern, now faces unusually low tides that are making it impossible for gondolas, water taxis and ambulances to navigate some of its famous canals. The problems in Venice are being blamed on a combination of factors – the lack of rain, a high pressure system, a full moon and sea currents.
* Also black cats, the green comet, the birth of a two-headed calf and somebody broke a mirror in St. Mark’s cathedral.
* So, instead of sinking, Venice is now rising?
* Will the canals not smell so bad, ’cause there’s not as much water? Or will they smell more, because the water that’s left is more concentrated?
* First floods, then drought. Venice is the California of Italy.
* Can the gondoliers switch to rickshaws?
