UPSIDE-DOWN CHRISTMAS TREES NOW A THING
Upside down Christmas trees are, for some reason, becoming a thing this year, sprouting up (or rather, DOWN – ha ha!) at hotels and department stores. The trees are hung from the ceiling with the top of the tree touching the ground. Walmart sells a Champagne-colored $250 upside down tree. Kohl’s has a 7.5-foot one that comes pre-lit for $450. A 7-and-a-half-footer without lights is a little more than $1,000 at Target. A cheaper 7-foot-3 tree is $160 at Home Depot. The tradition of hanging Christmas trees upside down dates back to the 12th century when Central Europeans did it to represent the Holy Trinity.
* Or maybe 12th century Central Europeans were just drunk. Who knows?
* After stopping at a billion houses, this has got to really mess with Santa’s head.
* I feel bad for the seniors who just stop and stare, confused, shaking their heads.
* Don’t try this with a menorah. You’ll burn the house down.
* There are some who think the upside-down Christmas tree resembles a, uh, woman’s… uh, “area”. A “Bush de Noel”, as it were.
