U.S. ARMY GETTING RID OF GRENADE-THROWING CLASS
The U.S. Army is dropping its hand grenade competency requirement for graduation from basic training because getting recruits to pass it is too hard. Major General Malcolm Frost says the army as found that it’s taking three to four times as much time just to qualify recruits on the hand grenade course than expected, and it’s taking away from other aspects of training. Plus, says Major Frost, trainees just aren’t strong enough to throw the grenade far enough away – 65 to 100 feet – and can’t be taught to properly throw a grenade “if they haven’t thrown growing up.”
* (whining) “Oohhhhh…Armying is haaaaard!”
* You’d think if you hand a young man a live grenade, he’d learn to throw it pretty quick.
* So what’s the plan during battle? Soldiers hand the grenade up the line bucket-brigade style?
* It was so thoughtful of Major Frost to let all the enemy soldiers in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan know they can safely get closer to our guys ’cause they can’t throw.
* Give a grenade to a recruit these days, they call an Uber and have them deliver it to the enemy.
