COMEDY MP3s POSTED ON OUR PREP SITE FOR TODAY: SONG – IT’S ELECTION TIME

TODAY IS …
(All days repeat annually on today’s date unless otherwise noted; days may or may not be called “National”/”International”/”World” depending on source; sources listed often have additional info. We generally do not list special days which were created by commercial companies for the purpose of marketing, or the hundreds of disease awareness listings which occur each year.)

INTERNATIONAL INTERNET DAY
The Calendar Labs website says this (edited):
“International Internet Day is celebrated worldwide to commemorate a momentous day in the history of telecommunications and technology. This was the sending of the first electronic message from one computer to another on the 29th of October, 1969. Charley Kline, a student programmer at UCLA working under the supervision of Professor Leonard Kleinrock, transmitted a message from the computer at UCLA to a computer at the Stanford Research Institute.”

NATIONAL CAT DAY
The National Day Calendar website says this:
“National Cat Day was founded to help the public recognize the number of cats that need to be rescued. This day is sponsored by the Animal Miracle Foundation and was created by Pet Lifestyle Expert and Animal Welfare Advocate, Colleen Paige, in 2005. Since its inception, it has helped save the lives of more than one million cats.”

NATIONAL HERMIT DAY
The National Day Calendar website says this:
“No matter how social a person is, everyone needs to take a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. This single-day celebration suggests that we disengage from the world for the day. Turn off the phone. Putter around the house. Enjoy your secluded little neck of the world. Be hermit-like for the day. Just for the day. Come back to the rest of the world refreshed and invigorated. October 29th is the day St.Colman died in Ireland in 632 A.D. He had a seven-year hermitage in the Burren Forest in a cave. It is believed that National Hermit Day honors the date of his death.”

ENTERTAINMENT & CELEBRITIES

HIGHEST BOX OFFICE-EARNING ACTORS

EverPresent ranked the world’s highest-grossing actors of all time, based on the total box office gross of films in which they had a leading role. These monetary amounts are in BILLIONS:
1. Samuel L. Jackson, whose 69 movies have grossed $14.6 billion in total
2. Scarlett Johansson, in 33 movies she has starred in, has brought in $14.5 billion
3. Robert Downey, Jr. – 44 movies, $14.3 billion (* I’m starting to see a pattern: they’re all in the same movies.)
4. Zoe Saldana – 34 movies, $14.2 billion
5. Chris Pratt – 24 movies, $14.1 billion
6. Vin Diesel – 28 movies, $12 billion
7. Tom Cruise – 44 movies, $12 billion
8. Chris Hemsworth – 28 movies, $12 billion
9. Bradley Cooper – 30 movies, $11.4 billion
10. Chris Evans – 28 movies, $11.2 billion
11. Tom Hanks – 56 movies, $10.8 billion
12. Johnny Depp – 53 movies, $10.3 billion
13. Dwayne Johnson – 38 movies, $10.2 billion
14. Tom Holland – 15 movies, $9.9 billion
15. Mark Ruffalo – 23 movies, $9.7 billion
* Thank you Star Wars, Marvel, DC Comics, Star Trek, and James Cameron.
* This list makes it especially sad that Joaquin Phoenix’s new Joker movie tanked.
* And Hollywood says it doesn’t have enough money to make a second season of KAOS? (or insert your favorite canceled-too-early show)
* Has Vin Diesel really made 28 movies, or has he just made the same movie 28 times?

THE FUNNIEST THING A KID EVER SAID TO YOU

Reddit asked, “What’s the funniest thing a kid has ever said to you?” Some of the responses:
– “You’re too ugly to be rich.”
– “A kid once told me, ‘You’re like a grown-up, but with kid energy.’ I took it as a compliment.”
– “I said, ‘I don’t want to do that.’ 7-year-old boy says, ‘What are ya, some kind of petunia?'”
– “A 9 year old girl is lamenting to me about her parents and she says, ‘They just don’t understand, I’m in my sassy phase.'”
– “Mistook the name Betty Crocker for booty. Booty Crocker.”
– “My husband and I met a little girl and her mom at the Polynesian resort at Disney. The little girl was really excited and told us that she brought the good toilet paper from home.”
– “My 4 year old nephew asked me why there was a man in a field dressed in a horsey suit. He was looking at a horse.”
– “I work in a day care, telling a kid to use their ‘kind hands’ after they began to push another kid. A sweet little girl who was listening to us then accidentally got hit with a football. She looked up and said, ‘And you need to use your kind balls.'”
* PHONE TOPIC: Has a kid said something memorably funny to you lately?

U.S. NEWS

MAN ATTACKED WITH MOP

A man was hospitalized after being attacked by another man with a mop. It happened early Monday morning near the stadiums in South Philadelphia. A man sitting on a bench was approached by another individual and an altercation ensued. The man who was sitting on the bench found a mop on the ground and attacked the other man with it. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital for observation, and the man on the bench told officers he used the mop in self-defense.
* Self-defense? Did the other guy have a Swiffer?
* “He was threatening me, officer – so I mopped the floor with ‘im!”
* “Look out – it’s microfiber!”
* Despite the mop, he wasn’t able to make a clean getaway.
* So, it was like the John Wick movies where you just pick up any random thing and attack someone with it. Was the guy on the bench Keanu Reeves?
* Coulda been worse. Coulda been a vacuum cleaner.

AT LAST, MCDONALD’S CAN REPAIR THEIR OWN ICE CREAM MACHINES

The only thing worse than going into a McDonald’s and coming out with E. Coli is when you go into a McDonald’s for a McFlurry and learn the machine is broken. For years, the broken McFlurry machine has been the bane of McDonald’s customers everywhere. There’s even a website called McBroken.com that tracks which McDonald’s have busted ice cream machines. Currently, 15% of McDonald’s have a broken machine. The problem is, McDonald’s franchises haven’t been allowed to fix the soft serve ice cream machines on their own because the maker of the machines – the Taylor company – owns the copyright and exclusive rights to fix the machines. (* It’s the same principal as farmers not being legally allowed to repair their own tractors.) To top it off, people who DO know how to fix the machines says the problems lie with easily replaceable parts. But McDonald’s owners aren’t legally allowed to fix their own equipment… until now. Last week, the United States Copyright Office granted a copyright exemption that gives restaurants the “right to repair” the machines. The decision, say experts, will lead to an “overdue shake-up of the commercial food prep industry, enabling businesses to better serve their customers.”
* And JUST as America was starting to get a handle on dropping some of that extra weight.
* Give me a McFlurry! I want my 556 empty calories, dammit!
* I don’t know who runs the Taylor company, but I’m picturing Mr. Burns from The Simpsons.
* Dang! If we’d known about this 20 years ago we could’ve DESTROYED the Taylor company on the internet!
* The Taylor company won’t be fixing those ice cream machines anymore, but I’ll bet those “easily replaceable parts” just quadrupled in price.
* Now if they can just get rid of those godawful confusing touch-screen self-ordering kiosks, McDonald’s will be great again. Except for the E. coli thing, of course.

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

PHOTOGRAPHER TAKES ANOTHER MASS NUDE PICTURE

New York artist Spencer Tunick staged another of his mass nude pictures on Sunday. This one was on Brisbane, Australia’s iconic Story Bridge. 5,425 buck-naked people piled on to the bridge. Everybody was told how to pose. In one shot, everyone crouches over on all fours, their heads turned into their chests. In another, everyone lies flat on their backs, with their arms flat beside them. In another, everybody is on their left side, butt toward the camera, with their right arm pointing up toward the sky. Critics say Tunic’s photos are less about sexuality and more about how a mass of naked people becomes an abstraction.
* An abstraction or a distraction?
* It’s actually about how Spencer Tunick will always, ALWAYS get free news coverage when he does this, ’cause – hey – THOUSANDS OF NAKED PEOPLE.
* It sounds like the world’s most uncomfortable yoga class.
* Never have so many people been hanging out hanging out.
* The worst part? 5,425 naked people bending over to pick up their clothes.
* Afterwards, there were massive cries of, “Hey, where’s my wallet!!!!”

JON STEWART EXTENDS “DAILY SHOW” GIG INTO NEXT YEAR

Jon Stewart is officially extending his return to “The Daily Show.” The late night legend will continue to host the Comedy Central show once a week and shout his comedy at us through December of 2025. Previously, Stewart was only expected to host through the 2024 election. This upping of his onscreen appearance is a sign that “The Daily Show” in its new format seems to be working for Comedy Central.

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN NOT A BILLIONAIRE

Bruce Springsteen denies the July Forbes report that he’s one of rock’s billionaires, “conservatively estimating” him to be worth $1.1 billion. Bruce says in an interview with The Telegraph, “I’m not a billionaire. I wish I was, but they got that real wrong. I’ve spent too much money on superfluous things.” He said that, after years of struggling before making it big, you want to enjoy “your good fortune” because “you put the work in.” He did say that he generously compensates the members of his E Street Band: “I pay them a tremendous amount of money,” he said.

2014 – Phil Collins handed over his large collection of Alamo memorabilia to a Texas museum, calling the donation the end of a six-decade “journey.” “I’m 64,” he said of his fascination with the 1836 battle. “When I was five or six years old, this thing began.” Collins’ collection included a fringed leather pouch used by Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie’s legendary knife.

2005 – A set of waxwork heads of The Beatles from their Sgt. Pepper’s album cover sold for over $160,000.
