TRENDING: ICED COFFEE AND ONIONS

There’s a new trend on TikTok – people are chopping up spring onions – those skinny little green ones – and tossing them into their Starbucks iced latte. The spring onion latte reportedly originated in China, where odd food and drink combinations are fairly common. The New York Times notes that Chinese culture has a food category called “dark cuisine” where two foods that absolutely don’t go together are thrown together – like ice cream fried rice, or chicken wings in blueberry soda. But in this case, it’s iced coffee with some chopped onions tossed in. How does it taste? Just like you’d expect. Says one reviewer: “One sip is an uncomfortable experience. The feeling of the green onion sliding down my throat with a mix of coffee and milk is just horrific.”
* Well that’s because he left out the peanut butter.
* This was a grown person, mind you, doing something because TikTok told them to do it. As mom used to say, “If your friend jumped off a cliff, would you?”
* If nothing else, it guarantees you your own seat on the light rail to work.
* Oops – in the time it took me to tell you about spring onion lattes, they’ve been replaced by another trend.
* PHONE TOPIC: Do you try weird food trends you see on the internet? Have you ever found a good one?
