SURVEY: WE’RE REALLY BAD AT NATURE
British homebuilder Redrow surveyed 2,000 British adults about nature. Some of the findings:
– Only 58% could correctly identify a robin. (* Yet 96% could identify Batman.)
– More than half (55%) could not distinguish between a moth and a butterfly.
– One out of four people had no idea a caterpillar transforms into a butterfly.
– The average adult can only identify six birds and six insects that commonly visit gardens. (* I would call that the “below average” adult.)
– 78% can not tell the difference between a bee and a wasp.
* Yeah, we’re pretty well screwed as a planet.
* Sounds like this homebuilding company wants people to be able to identify the bugs that are infesting their new home.
* Could the Brits at least identify those hedgehogs thingies that are running all over their country?
* Bees are happy and busy. Wasps are just jerks. That’s all you need to know.
