SURVEY: LYING

According to a poll of 2,000 U.S. adults by Online Betting Guide, a study about lying has found:
– 53 percent of Americans believe they’re good at spotting when others are lying to them.
– The top 3 best times to lie are (1) playing poker; (2) when someone asks if you like what they’re wearing and you don’t; (3) and when someone makes you a horrible meal.
Here are some tell-tale signs when somebody’s lying:
– They cover their eyes.
– Their eyes dart around from one direction to the other.
– They do a micro smirk, where one side of the mouth rises slightly.
– A dismissive eyebrow shrug.
– Asymetric facial expressions: one side of face goes into a smile, the other side stays neutral or goes down.
– They stick their tongue out.
– There are a lot of hand-to-face gestures, like hands touching the face or nose; or rubbing the face constantly as though tired in a bid to hide the expression of guilt.
– Metronomic body gestures, like leg-swinging, foot tapping, finger-drumming.
Finally, according to the survey, Americans lie four times a day on average.
* Interesting. And we’ll be back after this very… brief… message.
* Lying while playing poker? I’m shocked! Shocked and appalled at the very idea!
* Looking at this list of lying signals, I just realized that there isn’t a moment of the day I’m not lying.
* The takeaway here is, if you find yourself needing to lie, first put a bag over your head.
