SURFER FINED FOR SURFING WITH HIS SNAKE

An Australian surfer has been fined for surfing with his pet python without a permit. Higor Fiuza and his carpet python Shiva have been filmed longboarding at Rainbow Bay on the Gold Coast. Mr. Fiuza said that his three-year-old Morelia bredli carpet python had surfed at least 10 times. But Queensland’s Department of Environment and Science has now fined him $2,300 for taking the snake out in public without permission. In Australia, one is not allowed to remove a snake from its licensed premises without a permit, unless it’s for a trip to the vet. The reason: they could behave in an unpredictable way when removed from their enclosure, and cause the animal unnecessary stress.
* Oh, come on, what snake doesn’t like surfing? It’s part of their natural behavior in the wild.
* Unnecessary stress? Like losing a surfing competition?
* The hard part is getting the little bathing suit to stay on him.
* When a snake surfs, how do you tell if it’s goofy foot or not?
* Do carpet pythons prey on rug rats?
