STUDY: THE MORE YOU USE SNAPCHAT, THE MEANER YOU ARE

Researchers from Michigan State University have found that the greater a person’s social media addiction is, the more that person desires to be cruel and callous online. The team did a study, published in the journal Addictive Behaviors Reports, comparing the “problematic” use of Facebook and Snapchat. They surveyed 472 college-aged young adults, measuring the amount of time they spend on the two platforms and how many times they’ve tried to quit. One thing they found was a correlation between “overusing” Facebook and Snapchat and a desire to be mean to others. They found the more addicted on is to Facebook and Snapchat, the more they enjoy being cruel and posting negative things.
* Boy, I’ll say. You should see the crap my mom posts about me on Facebook.
* I don’t know. Ask anyone who’s mean to others on Facebook and Snapchat, and they explain it pretty clearly: Those people deserved it.
* This makes no sense. My neighbor’s dog isn’t on Facebook or Snapchat, and he’ll bite you just for looking at him funny.
* If you have to say mean things about someone, do it alone. In front of the TV. Watching House Hunters.
* They didn’t look at Twitter? ‘Cause there’s a guy in Washington who tweets nasty stuff like there’s no tomorrow.
