STUDY: MEN WHO MUMBLE DRIVE THE LADIES WILD

Scientists with the American Institute of Physics say men who speak less clearly, or mumble, tend to be more attractive to the opposite sex because women see it as a sign of masculinity. Conversely, men find precise pronunciation alluring because it signifies femininity. The findings were published in The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America. Scientists recorded 42 individuals while performing various speech tasks. Participants then rated the attractiveness of the talkers. Says study co-author Dr. Daniel Stehr from the University of California-Irvine, “From a sexual selection standpoint, males with less clear speech were found to be more attractive.”
* At least, they think that’s what he said. All Dr. Stehr does is mumble anymore. And smile a lot.
* This study comes from the Tom Hardy School of Speech.
* They observed 42 people speaking? Why go so overboard?
* I mumble when I text. Drives my wife crazy.
* It’s like the old saying goes: Men who mumble / Get a tumble / Men who articulate / Rarely participate.
(Or: Men who mumble / Get a tumble / Men who articulate / Come off emasculate.)
