STUDENTS ON FARM FIELD TRIP GASSED BY NEARBY PRISON
Some students from West Carroll Middle School in Mt. Carroll, Illinois, were visiting a farm when nearby Thomson Prison decided to do some tear gas training. The wind shifted and the gas blew over to the farm, exposing the kids to tear gas. No one was seriously injured. The students with the worst symptoms experienced watery eyes, itchy throats, and runny noses, although they were taken to a hospital to be evaluated.
* It’s good practice for high school.
* Sometimes the wind shifts in the other direction and the prisoners complain about the smell from the farm.
* Watery eyes, itchy throats, and runny noses? This might be a good time to remind everyone to get their flu shot this year.
* Some students also had red eyes but that was just from smoking weed.
* I still say a field trip is more fun than sitting in class.
* Depending on how these elections go, we could all be sniffing tear gas soon.
* The students were cool about the tear gas. They said it was still better than the smell from the school cafeteria.
* Actually the students had experienced tear gas before. One time the cafeteria had to fire some off to subdue an out-of-control tuna casserole.
