STINKY SCHOOL LUNCHES
A woman posted a story on “Am I The [Jerk]” on saying she had received a note from her 5-year-old son’s teacher about the lunches she packs for school. The family is Korean-American. The teacher complained that the lunches are stinky and “very distracting for the other students.” Mom wrote, “The usual lunch that I send him to school with is small celery sticks with blue cheese and goat cheese, kimchi and spam (he absolutely adores this dish), and spicy Doritos marinated in Sriracha.” (* I think I’m going to be ill.) The teacher sent a second email to the mom saying that her response was “unacceptable” — and that the lunches are “just too inappropriate to be sent to school any longer.” Pretty much all the responses were in support of the mom and the stinky lunches.
* You may support this, but that child will grow up to believe it’s fine to burn popcorn in the office microwave.
* Could he eat his lunch in the bathroom under the exhaust fan?
* How’d you like to be sitting next to him in his next class when he starts having gas?
* Can it really smell worse than any other school age boy? By 7th grade, everyone will be begging to smell just the kimchi and blue cheese.
* PHONE TOPIC: Do you have a traumatic school lunch story?
