SHOCKING NEW STUDY: MEN EAT MEAT TO FEEL MANLY

A new study out of UCLA finds that men have a tendency to eat meat because they want to be perceived as manly. Rosenfeld and Janet Tomiyama, Ph.D., surveyed 1,706 American adults age 18 to 88 regarding their meat-eating habits, willingness to turn vegan or vegetarian, and their tendency to conform to traditional gender roles. They found that men who adhere to masculine stereotypes eat all types of meat more frequently, including beef, pork, fish and chicken. However, men who more often eat fish and pork do not stick to those rigid ideas of manliness. Overall, men also show a reluctance toward going vegetarian. Women didn’t display these trends in the study, which has suggested the connection between men’s meat consumption and a sense of their masculine identity. The point of the study was to find out how men’s perceptions of traditional masculinity could be changed and lead to their reduced consumption of beef and chicken, for improved human health and environmental sustainability.
* The study was financed by the Lasagna Institute of America.
* Like I don’t feel bad already grabbing a Quarter Pounder from McDonald’s.
* So, if you eat salad, should you have your testosterone checked?
* I don’t know about other men, but I eat meat to feel less hungry.
* They might be on to something with this masculinity thing. I do tend to strut less when I walk into, say, Panera Bread.
