SCIENCE: THREE KIDS MAKE YOU CRAZY, TWO’S OK
Raising three or more children may spur the onset of cognitive decline, or dementia, later in life, according to the new study from Columbia’s Aging Center/Mailman School of Public Health and the University of Paris-Dauphne. Published in the journal Demography, the study analyzed cognitive decline among older parents across Europe who raised three or more kids compared to those who brought up two children. The researchers found that having three or more kids vs. two children has a “negative effect on late-life cognition.” They’ve determined it makes your brain age 6.2 years older. On the positive side, the researchers said having more kids reduces the risk of social isolation for their parents, a situation that can protect against cognitive decline.
* Make up your damn minds.
* Maybe you want the social isolation ’cause you finally get some peace and quiet.
* It’s true! Look at poor Rebecca on “This is Us” – three kids, and now she’s got dementia. I blame Kevin.
* If your cognitive decline makes you forget about one of the kids, do you go back to normal?
* So, in your brain, two’s company, three’s a crowd.
