SAD: LATEST "WAR ON CHRISTMAS" VICTIM – HELLO KITTY
In Maine, Bangor High School teacher Catherine Gordon was told by school authorities to remove a small pink Christmas tree festooned with the character Hello Kitty from her classroom. When the story went viral locally, the school superintendent issued a statement saying culture, traditions and holidays must have an educational component and must be tied to curriculum. Here’s Catherine Gordon’s sad Facebook post:
“I am very sad … After 30 years of decorating my classroom for the holidays, I was told today by the building principal that I could no longer put up my little pink tree and to take it down. The tree had no religious symbols on it whatsoever. No crosses or angels – just pink Hello Kitties and my students really enjoyed it and it cheered me up during the day. When I first started teaching, we had parties the last day of school before vacation and the kids would bring in cookies and we played holiday music – none of that is allowed now. I feel that this is definitely a turning point in our society – when everything offends everyone all the time – it just sucks the joy out of everything.”
* Well, I have to say – she nailed it.
* Also, she’s a little old to be into Hello Kitty.
* Maybe hang a couple pictures of U.S. presidents on the tree?
* This is actually a minor setback for Hello Kitty, especially when you consider that the entire site got hacked this week.
* Okay, this symbolizes our drive towards political correctness. I understand that. But I can’t see calling this one incident a “turning point in our society.”
* I mean Jackie Robinson was a turning point in society. You see the difference?
* It wasn’t even a particularly harsh Christmas story.
* Take today’s other story: A Santa broke into a New York apartment and threatened the tenant with a gun. Now, that’s a harsh Christmas story.
