ROBOT CAN COOK, TASTE, ADJUST FLAVORS
Researchers at the University of Cambridge developed a robot that can imitate the human processes of chewing and tasting, in order that they might eventually be able to produce food humans will not only enjoy – but can also be tweaked according to individual tastes. If the robots learn what does and does not taste good, making them better cooks, they could also be used for automated food preparation. The robot, which has already been trained to make omelettes, tasted nine different variations of scrambled eggs and tomatoes at three different stages of the cooking process, to continually check whether the balance of flavors is right.
* In the end, you get a pre-chewed omelet?
* They would have have had this robot years ago, but they were feeding it British food and it kept giving up.
* On the bright side, this could mean the end of our 700 TV cooking shows.
* Hope you like your food with just a soupçon of motor oil.
* Of course, anytime you see the words “might eventually” in these science stories, that means “never gonna happen.”
