REAL ESTATE AGENT BURNED DOWN HOUSE SHE WAS SELLING
A real estate agent in Sydney, Australia, was found liable for accidentally burning down a multi-million dollar property while preparing for an open house. Back in 2019, realtor Julie Bundock was preparing for an open house at a four-bedroom home on Sydney’s northern beaches when she noticed the current renters of the house had left some bedding on the deck to dry. She took the sheets and threw them in the basement onto a shelf below a light, which she then switched on. About 20 minutes later the bedding caught fire due to the wall-mounted light. The case just came to trial, and a judge ordered Ms. Bundock’s real estate company to pay the homeowner $740,000 for the loss of his house and a combined $121,000 to the four renters, who lost their possessions in the fire.
* Time to renegotiate that 6% sales commission.
* It was a hot real estate market in 2019.
* If only there was some sort of machine you could stick wet fabrics in and it would dry them using hot air.
* A multi-million dollar property and she’s only liable for $740,000? She’s lucky the judge sucks at math.
* It was actually a great financial move for the market – if you want to drive up demand for houses, lower the supply.
