RARE TIGERS PUT TOGETHER TO MATE; ONE KILLS THE OTHER
The London Zoo brought together two rare Sumatran tigers in the hopes that they would breed as part of a Europe-wide tiger conservation program for the endangered Sumatran subspecies. They kept newly arrived male tiger Asim in a separate enclosure from Melati, the female tiger who was supposed to become his mate. For ten days, they lived next to each other, getting used to each other’s presence and smells before officially meeting in the same enclosure. Finally, the zoo put them together for a booty call. It didn’t work out so good. They got into a fight, and the male tiger killed the female. The handlers tried to use loud noises, a flare, and alarms to try to distract the two tigers, but to no avail. They managed to put Asim back in a separate paddock, but by that time Melati, 10, was already dead.
* Asim? More like Asole.
* You’re not you when you’re hangry.
* The rare Sumatran tiger is now known as the RARER Sumatran tiger.
* Perhaps someone should have explained to Asim the tiger version of the birds and the bees.
* Next time, make sure each tiger has a safe word.
* They shoulda had the guy from Colorado on hand, the one that killed the cougar with his bare hands. He’d have stopped the roughhousing.
