POLICE TO TEACH ELDERLY HOW TO USE THEIR CANES FOR SELF-DEFENSE
Police in Boca Raton, Florida, will teach local senior citizens how to defend themselves with their canes and walkers during a free, nine-week “Cane Fu” course that begins January 17. The class will teach senior citizens observation skills, how to avoid confrontation, the right way to respond to a suspicious or dangerous situation and how to use a walking stick or cane for self-defense when necessary. The cane self-defense skills that will be taught include strikes, jabs and blocks, founded on martial arts principles.
* Also taught in the course will be scooter-jitsu and bed pan do.
* Encouraging elderly people to get in the face of their assailants. What could go wrong?
* So, while you’re using your cane to strike, jab and block, what do you use to keep standing?
* This might work – MIGHT work – if they put a Taser on the end of the cane.
* How about making your attacker fall asleep with stories about your grandchildren?
* Don’t mistake Cane Fu with the sniffling from cocaine use. That’s called the Cane Flu.
* A 9-week course? Somebody’s milking the system down there in Boca Raton.
* Look, I know they have plenty of money in Boca Raton, but 9 weeks to learn how to hit someone over the head with a cane?
* Then after that doesn’t work you return to begging and pleading for your life.
* Wow. Even when Florida tries to do something serious, it comes out wacky.
