PEOPLE MAKE DECISIONS MUCH QUICKER THAN YOU THINK

Nadav Klein, a PhD student at the University of Chicago, interviewed 2,000 coupled and uncoupled people, looking into how long it takes people to make decisions. What he found was that people consume far less information than expected before deeming things good or bad. This means that there’s too much emphasis on long-term trials, decision aids, and overwork to impress others. We tend to neglect the speed at which conclusions will form. For example:
– People thought it would take five bad interactions before you decide you don’t like someone. In fact, it takes just three bad interactions before you realize you really don’t like them.
– Those interviewed thought it might take 210 days to decide you want to get married to another person. But in actuality, on average, it took people just 172 days to decide that they wanted to get married. That’s about six months. So, if you’re sticking with somebody in the hopes that love will come… don’t. Go try again and stop wasting your time.
* Do it. DO IIIIIITTTT! … Mom.
* It just took me three sentences before I realized I thought this story was stupid.
* Plus, I knew from Day One that Flo from Progressive creeped me out.
* Well, heck, Joe Biden’s approval rating has already plummeted to 42%. That didn’t take long.
