PANDEMIC BUYING REGRETS

Do you have a regret over something you bought during the pandemic? During the darkest moments of lockdown, people went wild shopping online, buying stuff for a new hobby or exercise equipment or signing up for online classes. The New York Post has a few examples:
– A woman named Josephine Zohny last April splurged on $320 worth of liquor. The problem? She doesn’t drink. She says, “I was reading the news and suddenly became overwhelmed with the urge to buy alcohol.” Now she’s stuck with about 10 kinds of booze, including “a pink gin and some kind of artisanal-hipster rum.”
– Tatiana Hernandez was scrolling online and bought the “Oklahoma!” soundtrack on vinyl. Unfortunately, said the 26-year-old, “I don’t have a record player.”
– New Jersey mom Caren Begun bought a 13-foot above-ground pool, afraid that there’d be nothing for the kids to do during the summer. Their yard wasn’t completely flat, and the tilt let algae and bacteria grow. After buying it for $400 in May, her family barely used it, and she sold it for $50.
– Elizabeth Chan bought a $50 tortilla press when she found a shortage of tortillas in the supermarket. She has yet to take it out of the box.
* How many TV streaming services did you pandemic-buy last year, huh? Any of them worth it?
* If it makes you feel any better about those purchases you regret, just know that Jeff Bezos appreciates it very, very much.
* On the bright side, all these people buying stuff has kept the stock market climbing.
* This is true: Oklahoma’s trying to dump $2 million of hydroxychloroquine, that malaria drug they bought up when Trump said it was a “miracle cure.” They should have just bought booze, like that first lady.
