ONE MOM COMPLAINS ABOUT SCHOOL BUS DRIVER BUYING ICE CREAM FOR THE KIDS
In East Grand Forks, Minnesota, Jackie Marks thought her third-grader would be home by 1:30 last Tuesday afternoon, the last day of school. By 1:40, she started getting nervous and drove down to the bus stop. Another mom told her some buses take the kids to Dairy Queen on the last day of school. Marks was unaware of that. She headed to Dairy Queen, where her daughter’s bus was still parked. She complained to the East Grand Forks School Board on Monday night. The district has received no other complaints regarding the incident, but Marks said the district is not taking the issue as seriously as she would like. She believes loose policies on unsanctioned field trips set a poor example for children who might think it is okay to go anywhere with an adult. “This is not something a bus driver has the power to do,” she said.
* The bus driver would beg to differ.
* All the other parents? Happy their kids wouldn’t be home so soon.
* Was this an unsanctioned field trip, or a mass kidnapping with a happy ending?
* Stranger danger, or ice cream dream?
* We all know whose house is getting egged this Halloween.
* The article doesn’t say, but I know what her daughter’s name is: Snowflake.
* PHONE TOPIC: Should the school allow bus drivers to take the kids for ice cream on the last day of school?
