MORE WONDERS FROM THE CONSUMER ELECTRONICS SHOW
Here are some more gizmos and gadgets being unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas:
1. The TV with No Remote Control: A company called Displace says they have reinvented the television. Their TV uses “proprietary active-loop vacuum technology” that allows it to stick to a window. You just press it on the window, and it stays. (* Until it doesn’t.) The TV has no power cord – instead it relies on four batteries mounted on the back of the TV that need to be recharged once a month. It also has no remote control: the Displace TV has a built-in camera that reacts to hand movements to change the channel.
* And nobody sees the flaws in this design? Really?
* “I was scratching my nose and suddenly I’m signed up for Peacock streaming”
2. LG has a “laundry saver” mode on its clothes dryers that will send a message to your phone to let you know when the dryer is done. If you’re not at home, you can then tell the drier to keep spinning so the clothes don’t crumple.
* Nothing like overworking a heating element when you’re out of the house.
* If you’re not home, how did the clothes get into the dryer?
3. Chinese technology company TCL has eyeglasses that can translate a conversation with a Chinese speaker in real time and post the translation on the lenses of the glasses you’re wearing.
* So far, though, all the Chinese keeps translating to “Show me where is your technology please.”
* Of course, you yourself still can’t SPEAK Chinese, so the conversations are pretty short.
4. LG’s MoodUP range of appliances come with colored panels which you can change via an app, so – you can change the color of your appliances. LG says there are 190,000 color combinations in its MoodUP range. You can also set the fridge colors to your choice of music which will see the lights flashing on an off like a disco floor.
* You can dance in the kitchen just like they do in every romantic comedy, now with disco lights.
* Only 190,000 color combinations? Slackers.
5. Sneaker Display Case: One more from LG, it’s the Style Shoe Case – a box in which you can place your sneakers, illuminated with your choice of colored light. It even has a rotate feature to spin your sneakers around like a museum piece.
* It makes sense. Six months after you buy the latest sneakers, new ones come out and yours belong in a museum.
* Wow, LG has everything from colored lights to more colored lights.
