MONTANA LEGISLATOR WANTS TO BRING BACK ROAD BEERS
A Montana lawmaker is working on legislation that may soon allow passengers to have open containers of liquor in the car. Republican state Rep. Daniel Zolnikov thinks it would be okay to allow passengers – but not drivers – to have an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle on the highway, lifting an existing ban on the practice. Although some are worried this “road beers” move could spur the driver to drink, too, Zolnikov dismisses those concerns, noting “that’s like saying [designated drivers] shouldn’t go to bars in case they’re tempted to have a drink.” He says that “most Montanans” are already flouting the open-container law anyway and that it’s time to stop “treating adults like children.”
* Unless the children are drinking booze.
* Repeal laws that people flout anyway? That could lead to a pretty fun society.
* Dangerous, but fun.
* Isn’t Montana the state with an 80 mile per hour speed limit? I say, go for it. Any problems will work themselves out quicker.
* How did this guy ever become a representative in a forward-looking state like Montana?
* He didn’t write this as part of a manifesto, did he?
* Remember, this is the state that gave us the Unabomber.
* And at least the Unabomber only drove a bicycle.
* Actually, being pro-alcohol could attract a whole bunch of voters.
* As long as they’re not to drunk to get to the polls.
* So much for having one for the road.
