MONKEYS THROW ROCKS AT TREES TO MAKE MUSIC

Scientists have seen chimpanzees creating “music” that includes hooting and throwing rocks at trees. Primatologists from the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Germany claim the behavior is some type of communication, according to the study published Wednesday in Biology Letters. The monkeys choose tree species that produce sounds that have energy concentrated at lower frequencies and a greater resonance, since these impact sounds would be optimal for long-distance communication. The researchers have seen the behavior in four groups of chimps in Libera, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea and Ivory Coast.
* Also at Phish concerts.
* Hey hey, they’re the Monkees.
* They keep a decent beat but the lyrics suck.
* It’s why they call it rock music. Duh.
* The monkey musicians throw rocks at trees to make music. Then the monkey music critics throw feces at the monkey musicians.
