INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR THE ELIMINATION OF VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN
The United Nations website says this:
“(On) 17 December 1999, the United Nations General Assembly designated 25 November as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and invited governments, international organizations and NGOs to organize activities designed to raise public awareness of the problem on that day. Women’s activists have marked 25 November as a day against violence since 1981. This date came from the brutal assassination in 1960, of the three Mirabal sisters, political activists in the Dominican Republic, on orders of Dominican ruler Rafael Trujillo (1930-1961).”

DISNEY DUMPING AEROSMITH ROLLER COASTER, SWITCHING TO MUPPETS
Aerosmith is being replaced on the famous Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster at Disney’s Hollywood Studios park in Florida. For 20 years, the indoor/in the dark coaster has blasted Aerosmith music during the thrill ride. Now, with Aerosmith having retired from touring earlier this year, it’s time to change it up. The new stars of the coaster: The Muppets. Disney said in a statement: “The Muppets will be taking over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, teaming up with some of music’s biggest stars for a rockin’ music festival!”
* Rockin’! That’s how you know it’s gonna be rockin’, when they use the word “rockin’.”
* “Teaming up,” ’cause nothing enhances your favorite rock song like having them throw the lead vocal to Kermit the Frog.
* They can theme it around Fozzie Bear and call it the Waka-Wakkin’ Roller Coaster.
* Don’t know if Disney’s noticed, but unless you’re Taylor Swift, music stars these days have about a three-month arc of fame.
* Maybe they can move Aerosmith over to the Haunted Mansion. They don’t even need to make them look any creepier.
THE BUZZ
WE WILL EAT 2,000 CALORIES AT THANKSGIVING DINNER
According to a company called Levity, a weight loss prescription service, the average American will consume roughly a day’s worth of calories in one sitting this Thanksgiving. The study interviewed more than 1,000 eaters, found out what they usually ate, did the math and determined that the average Thanksgiving meal consists of a whopping 2,092 calories. According to current guidelines issued jointly by the USDA, adults over the age of 21 need between 1,600 and 3,000 calories per day.
* So we’re well within the guidelines. Where’s the story here?
* The average American will consume 2,000 calories at Thanksgiving? Looking around, I’d say most Americans are above average. Waaaayyyy above average.
* Would it help if we didn’t put whipped cream on the pumpkin pie this year?
* Instead of loosening my belt after, I’m just going to skip the belt entirely.
* Come on, if you can’t overeat at Thanksgiving, then when can you overeat? Don’t answer that.
TOP FAST FOOD PLACE MEN WOULD TAKE A FIRST DATE: CHICK-FIL-A
DatingNews.com surveyed 3,000 American singles, asking Which Fast Food Restaurants Men Would Most Likely Take a First Date:
– The number one answer was Chick-fil-A, with over 16% of daters saying it’s their go-to fast food date spot.
– The second most popular was Dairy Queen, followed by Sonic Drive-In and Pizza Hut.
– 66% of women are okay if a man asks them for a first date at a place like McDonald’s.
* Stay classy, America!
* I think the question they should have asked is: Men, what is wrong with you????
* Wait – are these “men” and “women” or “teenagers”?
* Maybe if movie tickets weren’t closing in on 20 bucks each we could afford a restaurant on a date.
* Chick-fil-A is fine for a first date, but that second date better be to Dickey’s Barbecue Pit if you want to have a third date.
U.S. NEWS
GUY STEALS RED BULL, LEADS 120 MPH CHASE
In St. Louis, Missouri, last Thursday, a man who police saw walking to his car with about $500 worth of allegedly stolen Red Bull energy drinks led officers on a pursuit where speeds topped 120 mph. Anthony Simpson, 33, has been already been convicted of stealing Red Bull from local supermarkets on three different occasions. Officers identified Simpson walking to his car from a supermarket with a shopping cart full of Red Bull. Police activated their lights and sirens, but Simpson took off, leading police on the high-speed chase, weaving in and out of traffic and driving on the shoulder of the highway. Eventually, he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a concrete barrier. He then refused to get out of the vehicle until police fired pepper balls at him, and he then complied.
* Red Bull gives you wings! And a felony record!
* 120 miles per hour! Jeeze, did he put it in the gas tank?
* Luckily, the cops had just had a couple cups of espresso.
* You gotta admit, this would make a dandy commercial for the product.
* This is the opposite of what happens with people who shoplift SleepyTime Tea.
INTERNATIONAL NEWS
INDIAN MAN WAKES UP ON FUNERAL PYRE
An Indian man awoke on a funeral pyre moments before it was to be set on fire. Rohitash Kumar, 25, had fallen sick and was taken to a hospital in the town of Jhunjhunu on Thursday. He had had an epileptic seizure, and a doctor declared him dead on arrival at the hospital. But instead of the required postmortem to ascertain the cause of death, doctors just sent him to the mortuary, and then to be burned according to Hindu rites. Shortly before the funeral pyre was to be lit, Mr. Rohitash’s body started moving. He was rushed to the hospital for a second time, but was later confirmed dead on Friday. Three doctors were suspended at the hospital.
* They should have been suspended over hot coals.
* Well, there goes the barbecue.
* I bet he was hot under the collar.
* He was pretty burned up about almost being burned up.
* Those Indians take the game Hot or Not seriously.
ZOOKEEPER CHARGED WITH STEALING FOOD FROM THE ANIMALS
In Osaka, Japan, a zookeeper is accused of stealing food intended for the animals at the Osaka Zoo. The man, who has been working as a zookeeper for more than 10 years, allegedly stole fruits and vegetables that were prepared for animals at a zoo kitchen. He admitted to taking the food on the day he was caught, and also admitted earlier thefts. It’s believed he stole the food for his own consumption, but his motive remains unknown.
* Because fruits and vegetables are good for you?
* They were probably wondering why the animals were suddenly able to walk out of their cages between the bars.
* They ought to let the animals fight the humans for the food. I believe the zoos call that ‘enrichment.’
* “As punishment, we’re going to have you feed the animals.” “But that’s what I already do.” “No, we’re going to have YOU ‘feed’ the animals.”
CHINESE PIZZA HUT OFFERS FROG PIZZA
A Pizza Hut franchise in China is serving deep-fried frogs on top of their pies. The thick-crust pizza features a red sauce base under a bed of parsley with a whole deep-fried crunchy-coated bullfrog on top. Two halves of hard-boiled egg with black olives appear as the “eyes” of the frog. The topping is only available for a limited time.
* So jump on it while you can.
* A frog on top of a Pizza Hut Pizza. What a horrible thing to do, to the frog.
* And you thought picking bones out of trout was tedious.
* It’s the only pizza that delivers itself to your table.
* At least it’s not pineapple, because that’s disgusting.

ALICE BROCK OF “ALICE’S RESTAURANT” DIES
Alice Brock, the Alice in Arlo Guthrie famous song “Alice’s Restaurant,” has died. She was 83. Back in 1964, Alice and her former husband Ray Brock opened Alice’s Restaurant in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Musician Arlo Guthrie was a friend of the Brocks and, in 1965, stayed with them during Thanksgiving. After dinner, Guthrie and his friend Rick Robbins helped to clean out garbage from the Brocks’ property, which subsequently led to their arrests for illegally dumping trash down a hillside because they could not find a trash dump open on Thanksgiving day. The story became the classic 18 minute-and-34 second song, often played on radio on Thanksgiving Day. Alice Brock shut down Alice’s Restaurant in Stockbridge in 1979. In an announcement on his webpage, Arlo Guthrie wrote, “As well as being a restaurateur, Alice also became an author, and an artist. We worked together on various projects. During the next few decades we remained friends while our lives kept us busy. She was a no-nonsense gal, with a great sense of humor.”
