MICE CAN RECOGNIZE THEMSELVES IN A MIRROR

Scientists at the University of Texas report mice can recognize themselves in a mirror. Researchers marked the foreheads of black-furred mice with a spot of white ink. The rodents then spent more time grooming their heads, but not other parts of their bodies, in front of the mirror, presumably to try and get rid of the ink spot.

* Unmarked mice were seen checking themselves in the mirror and walking away saying, “Lookin’ fine!”
* John Travolta in “Saturday Night Fever” was a big influence on mice and their hair in the 1970’s.
* The next University of Texas study is to find out if prairie chickens like a good manicure.
